EXPERIENCE

Katia has worked in the Australian infrastructure, architecture and construction industries for close to two decades. She has led high value tenders in the renewable energy and transport sectors. She has also overseen social inclusion and impact activities, developing and implementing Social and Sustainable Procurement Framework and Plans, Workforce Development Plans, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and Gender Equality Action Plans.

A career in
working with
people and words…

Katia started working with words way back in the late 90s as Editor of Melbourne dance music street press Zebra (Inpress) and was editorial assistant to Don Watson for his classic memoir on his time as speechwriter to Paul Keating ‘Recollections of a Bleeding Heart’, and Hilary McPhee for her memoir ‘Other People’s Words’.

Since 2005, Katia has worked across Australia with a focus on ensuring business readiness to meet tender requirements and win work.

… and winning bids

From bid management, tender writing and policy and plan development (particularly in line with Government requirements), Katia’s recent work has focused on the clean energy sector where she managed the bid for the successful Marinus Link Balance of Works contractor and led a successful Feasibility Licence application for an offshore wind development in Gippsland. She has also coordinated a successful tender for a Government public transport refranchise, worked in the Public Private Partnership space with Plenary Group and with a number of architecture practices and Tier 1 construction and infrastructure contractors.

… and creating
social impact.

With a passion for social justice, Katia is currently working with a global OEM to explore initiatives to meet the social licence, local content, First Nations participation and workforce development requirements of the Australian Government’s Capacity Investment Scheme. Her work in the social impace space also includes:

Developing initiatives to meet the requirements of the Victorian Government’s Local Jobs First Policy (Local Industry Development Plans and Major Project Skills Guarantee), Social Procurement Framework and Building Equality Policy (Gender Equality Action Plans) alongside monitoring and reporting outcomes throughout project lifecycles.

Working with Uncle Jack Charles to recognise the profound Aboriginal heritage and significance of a specific site and create a plan to value the ongoing contribution of Aboriginal people and communities, and how this has a positive influence on us all. This Plan included engagement of an Aboriginal owned and operated Victorian-based contractor who provide meaningful long-term economic independence and career opportunities for Aboriginal people and their communities, to create the Uncle Jack Charles Place of Belonging.

Engagement of local artists and filmmakers for a local government project to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in establishing a special mural to be enjoyed by community.

A partnership with Registered Charity Youth Projects to develop a direct skill development and employment model for disadvantaged young people.

A collaboration with Registered Charity I’m Still Learning to donate construction materials otherwise headed to landfill for use in their Basic Home Maintenance courses as well as arranging volunteers to input as Handy Persons/Instructors for the courses.

Development of organisation-wide Environmental Sustainable Governance (ESG) Frameworks as well as project-specific Social Sustainability Plans.
